Financial Development Cooperation: What It Is and Why We Need It

For the fourth part of our Diplomatic Mini-Series, our Past President Balthasar Zipperlin gave us an introduction to financial development cooperation and the work of KfW.

Earlier this year, we learned how GIZ supports technical cooperation. This meeting added the financial perspective. Balthasar explained how development banks contribute to international projects, how financing decisions are made, and why this work is closely connected to foreign policy and diplomacy.

He also shared examples from his own work, including projects in different countries and the role geopolitics plays in his daily responsibilities. The presentation helped make a complex topic more concrete and showed how financial institutions can support long-term development.
